印尼政府20日接獲通報,一艘停靠在巴布亞港口的船隻被查獲船上有非法走私的74隻鸚鵡,而令人震驚的是,嫌犯為了不被發現,將每一隻鸚鵡都分別塞進寶特瓶內,手段十分殘忍。不幸的是,當警方查獲這批走私鸚鵡時,已有10隻鸚鵡活活被悶死在內。
綜合外媒報導,印尼警方發言人朱乃迪(Dodik Junaidi)表示,當時有一名船員聽到箱子內傳來奇怪聲響,19日打開箱子後,才發現裡頭竟然有數十隻被一一塞進寶特瓶內的鸚鵡,嚇得他連忙報警。據了解,被非法走私的鸚鵡是黑頂吸蜜鸚鵡(black-capped lories),是來自紐幾內亞與西南太平洋島嶼的原生物種,也是印尼的保育類動物,在非法寵物市場中同樣被視為珍寶。

警方到場並清點這批鸚鵡時發現,已經有10隻鸚鵡被活活悶死,陳屍寶特瓶內。朱乃迪也表示,由於還未查明這批鸚鵡的發貨地與目的地,因此還未逮捕任何涉案人士,
據悉,鳥類交易在印尼的非法寵物市場十分猖獗,此案也並非印尼政府首次破獲寶特瓶走私鸚鵡,早在2015年就有一名男子將21隻黃冠鸚鵡(yellow-crested cockatoos)分別塞入寶特瓶內走私,不過隨後便遭到警方逮捕。
